About First Nations Statistics (FNS)
First Nations Statistics (FNS) has been developed by First Nations People and led by First Nations People. The objective of the First Nations Statistics is to develop into the authoritative source of information on Social, Economic and Fiscal conditions of First Nations people and institutions.
First Nations Statistics will analyze, manage and protect First Nations statistical information. By providing relevant, reliable and timely data to First Nations Government, businesses and organizations. First Nations Statistics will earn the respect and trust of the First Nations communities.
Data provided by First Nations Statistics will be used to support improvement in the quality of life for First Nations individuals.
As First Nations move toward self-determination, there will be a greater need for national and regional infrastructure and institutions to manage First Nations information and statistics. FNS will support these needs by:
- Producing timely, accurate and accessible information on which to base community
planning, program evaluation and service delivery
- Providing analysis and publication from existing information data bases
- Providing data to ensure secure, stable and representative fiscal transfers
- Assisting Mother Earth to tell her story through analysis and publication of
Environmental data to better protect our legacy
- Supporting three new fiscal institutions through analysis and research
